It's Official...She's Our Daughter!

This morning, after a slow start to the day, Lia began to seem a little bit more comfortable with us. I know this will be a long process, so every step she makes is a treasure. In the picture above, she is with Scott "skyping" back home with her 2 big brothers. She's not real sure what to think about the goofy face Alex is making in the web cam.

After breakfast, we headed back over to the same hotel where we met Lia yesterday. We had an appointment with the Civil Affairs officer where we would formally adopt Lia as our daughter. She asked us some questions and we signed the papers, sealing each of them with a red thumb print. This picture shows Lia having her footprint made with the same red ink.

We saw the orphanage director and Lia's nanny (with her here in the picture) one last time. We could tell that she was a very kind woman who had real affection for Lia. She told us that it was remarkable that Lia hasn't really cried a lot with us yet because she always cries when with new people. We still have a long way to go on this journey, and I'm really not sure what Lia thinks of us yet, but I'll take that has a sign that maybe she is feeling a little comfortable.

After a trip to the notary's office we headed to Walmart. And yes, Walmart is still Walmart no matter where you are. Lia took a liking to a little ball so we were happy to get it for her. She decided to take it to lunch with her later that afternoon.
She doesn't speak any but says volumes with those big brown eyes. We are in serious trouble when she's older!
Thanks again for holding us up in prayer. This has been a wonderful trip so far and we continue to see the Lord's mercy all around us.
"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good; his love endures forever." Psalm 107:1

  3. Ahhh...you can see a little twinkle in those eyes...it's a beautiful thing! You sound so calm, happy, realistic and simply in heaven! I am so happy for all of you Angela! I love the fact that they use RED ink instead of Black--SWEET! And the nanny's comment about her crying--I have to believe that's God's love working in answer to your prayers--he's an awsome God and you're awesome parents. I'm sure both things are at play here!
