Friends in High Places

Let me tell you about my friend, Sonia.

We "met" recently via the world wide web when we realized we'd be traveling to China at the same time and our kids were at the same orphanage.

Lily with Sonia's 2 boys (Joey on the left and Jacob on the right).

Sonia is definitely someone you want to know when you are about to embark on an adventure like the one we are preparing for.

See, Sonia knows people.

She's got connections.

She asks.  They answer.

And the other day, while reading her blog, she dropped some knowledge on me that was profound.

What was it?

In a word:  Jibbigo.

And what is that you may ask?

Think "universal translator" from Star Trek that you download as an app to your phone.

You speak English.  It translates to Chinese.

You (well OK, not you, but let's say some really cute 8 year old Chinese girl) communicates in Chinese, it translates to English.

This is huge.  Because there are some very, very important things we will need to communicate to others while in China.

Like "Where is the nearest Starbucks?"

And "Could you please point me in the direction of the nearest toilet that flushes?"

And of course, one of the most important things we'll need translated~

Something I have been waiting months to communicate~

"You, sweet girl, have one of the most beautiful smiles I have ever seen..."

Thanks Sonia.

You rock.

  1. Bhahahaha! Oh my, if I have lead you to believe I have it all together than my acting skillz are top notch! Ha! Thanks for the shoutout, you CRACK ME UP and YES that app is amazing!! I'm so glad that you got it too! I brought the boys over to the computer last night and showed them your kiddos that are coming with you, we are so pumped to have another big family to hang out with! Holla!

  2. Your family is darling and sweet Lily is just beautiful! It looks like we will be in China the same time as we are bringing home a little boy!

  3. Oooohhh...this looks like a good thing to have on my phone. Will my phone even work in China? What an awesome photo of your daughter with Sonia's sons!!

  4. Angie your phone probably won't work....well, it might....but it'd be a fortune....but your apps should work just fine, especially the ones that don't need wi-fi. Which I believe this one does not....and if it does, we can all hang out at Starbucks the whole trip where there is wi-fi, drinking coffee, eating pastries and letting our kids run around. LOL

  5. I love this picture of Lily holding the pic of all your kids....we are so excited to have her as part of the family!!

  6. Don't let Sonia fool ya. She learned all those tricks about China from me!!!

    See ya in ZZ!!!

    Lily is darling!!!
